Noskova Brings Wimbledon Pace to Shenzhen

Any remaining optimism for the British camp evaporated swiftly once Linda Noskova stepped onto court to face British number one Katie Boulter. The 21-year-old Wimbledon champion was relentless. She blasted 15 aces — a number more befitting a men's match at altitude — and combined that serving power with punishing groundstrokes to take the first set 6-4 without facing a break point. Boulter steadied herself and pushed the second set deep, but Noskova held firm in the tiebreak, closing it out 7-6(3) to seal a 2-0 whitewash and Czechia's semi-final berth.

"It's all about the team competition," Noskova said courtside. "Every point in every match counts." The Wimbledon champion — who defeated compatriot Karolína Muchová in an all-Czech Wimbledon final back in July — now leads Czechia's charge for the title in front of Chinese crowds that are loudly backing the host nation further up the draw.

Road to the Semi-Finals

Czechia, bidding for a record 12th BJK Cup crown, will face the winner of Wednesday's quarter-final between Spain and Kazakhstan at Friday's semi-final. Kazakhstan enter without world number one Elena Rybakina, who is sidelined with an Achilles injury sustained in Cincinnati, which gives Spain a significant opportunity to reach the final four.

The other half of the draw resumes on Thursday, 24 September. Elina Svitolina's Ukraine take on Belgium in the first match of the day, before two-time defending champions Italy — chasing an unprecedented three consecutive titles — face host nation China in the evening quarter-final. Jasmine Paolini will anchor the Italian side against a Chinese team spearheaded by Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Qinwen Zheng.

Czechia's opening 2-0 margin underlines the level of focus required at this stage. Great Britain, semi-finalists in three of the past four editions, will have to regroup ahead of the 2027 qualifying campaign. Semi-finals on Friday and Saturday are followed by the title match on Sunday, 27 September.
